Exploring Margareten: Cafés, Culture and Vienna’s LGBTQIA+ Scene
Whether you are here to explore or simply slow down, Athens is always a good idea. We would love to welcome you. Just around the corner you’ll find Naschmarkt, one of the city’s liveliest spots. Come daytime it’s all about food stalls and coffee stops. In the evening the area fills with relaxed bars, long dinners and a vibrant LGBTQIA+ scene.
Fancy exploring? Here are a few local favourites.
QWIEN
Looking for a few local tips? We teamed up with friends around the city to find great coffee, tasty local food, vintage shops, and museums worth a visit. Just a short walk from the hotel, QWIEN is Vienna’s queer cultural centre and a great place to start if you want to understand the city a little better. It’s more than just an archive, it brings queer history, stories and culture into the present with exhibitions, talks and events that feel thoughtful but never heavy. A small place with a lot to discover, and a lovely reminder of how much history lives in the neighbourhood.
The Hive
Part café, part bar, part late-night hangout. The Hive shifts through the day, from coffee and food to cocktails and music later on. It has that easy “stay for one more” energy, especially in the evenings when the neighbourhood starts to fill up.
Sixta
A relaxed Austrian restaurant with a local feel and a small street terrace for warmer days. The food is classic, comforting and unpretentious, and the atmosphere is friendly without trying too hard. A good place when you want something simple, tasty and close to home.
