Meet our Neighbours in Vienna
There’s nothing quite like wandering through a new neighbourhood and exploring local stores along the way. As we get ready to open Max Brown 5th District, we’re out and about meeting the lovely locals who call the bohemian and laidback Margareten home. But we’re not just making friends; we’re also including some of their delightful specialties in our new hotel.
Unikatessen Concept Store, Where the smartly dressed Viennese like to go
Owner: Daniela Cismigu
Tell us about Unikatessen…
We are a concept store that carries high-end contemporary vintage clothing (from the 80s until now), vintage jewelry, emerging fashion designers, and unique objects. We simply love beautiful things and steer away from fast-paced trends.
What makes Vienna special to you?
Vienna is rich in culture and history, with influences from its past. It also has a quirky side that shows up in the city’s humor and character.
What’s your favorite thing about the neighborhood?
Without a doubt, Margareten is our favorite neighborhood in Vienna – it evolved pretty fast from a thoroughfare to an emerging district with cool shops, nice restaurants, and progressive art galleries, which attracts a lot of visitors who love to discover Vienna off-the-beaten-track.
How would you describe a typical Viennese?
My Viennese customers are classy with a twist and appreciate exquisite fabrics and unique pieces that reflect the city’s classic vibe.
Metamorphose, Where the locals like to read
Owner: Kerstin Tuma
TELL US ABOUT METAMORPHOSE…
Métamorphose is a woman-led bookstore that treats every book as a work of art. Since 2018, it has offered a carefully curated selection, from beloved classics to unique finds, displayed like gallery pieces. Visitors are invited to browse and escape the city’s hustle and bustle. The only difference from a museum? Here, you’re encouraged to touch the artwork.
WHAT MAKES VIENNA SPECIAL TO YOU?
Vienna is a vibrant melting pot of culinary delights, a hub of rich culture, with its grand opera houses, historic palaces, and world-class art galleries – its people also make it so special – you might find yourself chatting with a friendly café owner or a knowledgeable guide sharing fascinating stories about the city’s hidden past.
WHAT´S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AND IT´S COMMUNITY?
All the different small shops and the diversity of people who are living here – it’s really a special collection of unique storefronts and locals who frequent them.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL VIENNESE?
A mix of special humor („Schmäh“) combined with charming grumpiness and a big heart, which wants to be conquered.
You can find a handpicked collection of books from METAMORPHOSE inside the new Max Brown 5th District hotel.
